Another week, another concert…

Woodlands July 1 (V2)Our ‘Festival of Chichester’ concert at St Paul’s on Saturday 24th June was a great success, with performances from our Elementary Brass and Community Brass groups, as well as our Senior band.

But we’re not resting on our laurels…Saturday 1st July sees the band performing again, this time at a brand new venue for us in Rustington. If you missed us at St. Paul’s (or just want to see us again!) catch us at the Woodlands Centre, Woodlands Ave, Rustington, BN16 3HB at 7.30pm.

Time for some Summer Sounds

St Pauls June 2017 Colour

Join us for our annual summer concert at St Paul’s as part of the annual Festival of Chichester (Saturday 24th June, 7.30pm). ‘Summer Sounds’ seems a particularly appropriate theme, given the good weather we’ve been having.

Enjoy the usual mix of good music, raffle and refreshments – and if the heatwave continues we can enjoy the refreshments outside in the lovely church gardens.

Tickets £10/£8 (under 16s free with a paying adult) from the Novium box office or on the door. Click here for a copy of the poster

What’s on in May? Check out the diary!

daffsAfter a bit of a lull, things are hotting up on the CCB calendar front – we’ve got a whole load of things on this year and the calendar is already pretty full (right through to Christmas!). Check out the diary of events page to see what we’re up to…

To start things off, we’ll be heading into Chichester city centre to start off the summer season with a free performance at Chichester Cross on May 6th – take a break from your shopping to come and say hello! Our first major event of the season follows on May 14th at the Selsey Centre with our Spring Concert. Then the fete season kicks off on May 27th at Slindon College. And that’s even BEFORE the summer starts!

We hope to see you at at least a few events over the year. In the meantime, the band wishes you all a very happy Easter break!

Welcome to our new MD!

We arRomPice delighted to announce the appointment of a new Musical Director for our contesting band. Rom Stanko (M.Ed, GRNCM, NPQH, LTCL, PGCE) brings a wealth of brass playing and teaching experience, and we look forward to developing the band under his direction.

To read more about Rom’s impressive musical background, visit our Musical Director page.

Onwards into 2017…

Wishing a Happy New Year to all of our supporters!

2017-1A bit belated we know – it only seems days since we were finishing up our Christmas jobs and here we are nearly at the end of January already!

We had such a busy end of year; a very successful Christmas concert (with ALL of our groups performing!) and carolling all over Chichester and surrounding areas – so we’re only just catching our breath to plan for 2017. There are lots of things going on, and lots of new dates going into the diary already, so please keep up to date with all of our news and activities by checking in here regularly. Looking forward to seeing you in 2017!

Christmas is coming…

We’ve already played for the lights and fireworks in Chichester, helped Chichester Lions with their Santa evening, entertained shoppers at the Weald and Downland Christmas market, and welcomed Santa Claus to the Chichester Canal Basin – and that was just one weekend in November!

December is now here and our Christmas entertainment starts in earnest. We will be carolling in Chichester, Amberley and Arundel over the next few weekends – if you want to see us, you can download our handy guide! CCB Carolling Calendar 2016

Most important date for your diary – our annual Christmas concert at St Paul’s, Churchside. Always a great evening, and we look forward to seeing you there!2016-christmas-concert-poster-a4

Chichester – here we come!

You probably know that we have been rehearsing in Bognor Regis for the last 4 years, having been unable to find a suitable venue in the City. Happy as we have been in our Bognor rehearsal venues, our goal has always been to return to our home in Chichester. This week (on 3 November), we are taking a step towards making it a reality! Our Learners’ Group and our B-Band (two relatively new initiatives) will be making the move to rehearsing on Thursday evenings at The Lodge in Graylingwell Park. We’re very excited with this development and we hope that one day we’ll be able to tell you that the whole band is once again back home!

For more information on how to play with the band, or to find out venue/rehearsal  information, visit our Playing with the Band page.

November events for your diary

October is nearly over – but please make sure to visit us in Chichester City Centre on the last Saturday of the month (29th) from 10.30am as we turn out for the Annual Poppy Appeal Launch.

You can catch us in concert in Bognor Regis (Regis Centre, Saturday November 5th, 2-4pm) for a Last Afternoon of the Proms – a traditional proms event with the old favourites. We’ll be joined by local soprano, Sylvia Rota, for the afternoon.

We’ll be at the Selsey Centre on Saturday November 12th (7.30pm) for our autumn concert, An Evening with Chichester City Band.

As well as our concerts, we’ll be out in Chichester on Thursday 24th for the Christmas Lights switch on, and then get a start on your Christmas shopping  by visiting us at the Weald and Downland Museum for the annual Christmas Market (Saturday 26th November).

Find out about these and other future events on our diary pages.

Autumn is here – lots to look forward to!

13873050_10210583014436937_3388008048307452351_nWell, the summer season is over – August saw us in Hotham Park again on a beautiful late summer’s evening for the Country Fair (check out the gallery for some more pictures). Our return to the Weald and Downland Museum ‘Vintage and Steam Weekend’ was a little more soggy (!) but no less fun.

No rest though – our Learners’ Group is back after summer break and we now have our Chichester ‘B’ band going from strength to strength. (To find out more about our different groups, check out our ‘Playing with Chichester City Band‘ page.) Meanwhile the senior band is working hard towards developing our contest pieces and developing programmes for our autumn events.

All of our concerts can be found on our Diary of Events page, but here’s a snapshot:

  • Saturday October 1st: Participation in the annual Bandathon for Children in Need (St Paul’s, Chapel Rd, Worthing)
  • Saturday October 29th (10.30am): Poppy Appeal Launch (Chichester City Centre)
  • Saturday November 5th (2pm): Autumn Proms Concert (Regis Centre, Bognor Regis)
  • Saturday November 12th (7.30pm): Autumn Concert (Selsey Centre)

As always, we will be supporting the Annual Service of Remembrance in Litten Gardens, Chichester (Sunday November 13th).

Where did July go?!

Sidlesham 23July16_01.jpg The band had such a busy July, playing out at least once EVERY weekend – here we are in the middle of August and we haven’t had time to update you with our news. Where to start…

  • 2 July: We just managed to fit in a play-out at Chichester Cross before being rained on – then we hot-footed it to Midhurst to play for the Canine Partners fete (also between rain showers!).
  • 9 July: A lovely afternoon by the cricket pitch for Singleton Fete.
  • 16th July: A small group played at Beggars’ Roost nursing home in Fishbourne to entertain some old friends of the band, then we had a fantastic evening at Bognor Regis Proms in the Park with flag-waving, and singing from the splendid Sylvia Roca
  • 23rd July: Sidlesham Fete – a most excellent afternoon as usual AND we finally got our revenge on the village by winning the Tug-of-War!
  • 31st July: We were very proud, as ever, to support the Selsey RNLI Annual Service of Praise and Thanksgiving.

See our gallery for a selection of photos.

(And August is also busy so please keep an eye on our Diary of Events.)
